The Oscars and Trump’s facts

It looks like and use the same information source and fact-checking agency (aka and her crystal ball!).

Back on the 18th of said “We’ve got to keep our country safe. You look at what’s happening in Germany, you look at what’s happening last night in Sweden”. Now this was a bit of a shock and confused the whole of the Swedish population leading them to ask ‘what happened?’ did we miss something?

Well it now seems the folks doing the seem to be just as on the ball, as President Trump.

I’m not talking about the ‘screw-up’ on the naming of the best picture which was clearly just that a screw-up. But, when they make a whole segment with film clip with pictures – names and titles and get it wrong, then it’s not just one person who really screwed up.

The annual run down of those folks who make up the ‘In Memoriam segment’ raised a few eyes this time round. OK, we’re used to the fact they tend to always ‘forget’ several folks who should be on the list, but the list this year whilst ‘missing’ , and the original Man from U.N.C.L.E. and one of the original Magnificent Seven actor Robert Vaughn to name just two who should have been there. OK, I get the fact it’s the Oscars and Actors, Writers and folks known mainly for TV work might be ‘overlooked’ such as Florence Henderson, Doris Roberts and Garry Shandling. But they went on to break new ground when they did however put the name of on screen ( a four-time Oscar nominated Australian costume designer, who died in October 2016), yet showed the photo of  Jan Chapman instead.

Jan Chapman is still alive, kicking and able to send an e-mail to Variety, saying that she’s sad over what happened. Jan added that she double checked to make sure the right picture was being used. Jan and Janet worked together on The Piano.

“I was devastated by the use of my image in place of my great friend and long-time collaborator Janet Patterson. I had urged her agency to check any photograph which might be used and understand that they were told that the Academy had it covered. Janet was a great beauty and four-time Oscar nominee and it is very disappointing that the error was not picked up. I am alive and well and an active producer.”
